Stationery: How wedding suites are more than just paper.
I have had the amazing opportunity of sitting down with Christa of Simply Torn [Art +Design]. Simply Torn is a St. Louis Based custom event stationery business. Owner and Designer, Christa, creates beautiful pieces for showers, parties, and you guessed it, weddings. Christa’s wedding suites are individualized making them personal to the couple. She goes above and beyond to ensure that the couple is represented and their vision comes to life.
From being a past client I can tell you: Christa’s experience is an amazing one. You get to sit down with her, tell her about your day, and she takes the time going through every detail (even ones you would have never thought of). She brings out samples, pieces, layers items to give you an idea of your final piece. She is timely, organized, patient, and best of all she creates gorgeous pieces.
Instead of me telling you all the ins and outs of Simply Torn, I thought better to hear it from Christa herself. Below are some Q and A’s about Simply Torn and the process of creating your custom wedding suite!
Q. What’s your business?
Christa: I own Simply Torn [Art + Design], a custom stationery design studio located in St. Louis, Missouri. Though I offer a wide range of products, my main focus is currently wedding stationery.
Q. How would you describe your style?
Christa: Because all of my work is custom, and I invite my clients to be a part of the creative process within their initial consultation, this often depends on what style they are drawn to or are trying to achieve within their custom stationery.
Q. What does your process look like?
Christa: My process begins with a consultation where couples will come in to discuss their color palette, overall feel of the day, and vision for their special day. Together, we take a look at various wedding stationery. I encourage them to point out details from various suites they are drawn to so that, together, we can build them their own completely custom stationery. After the initial consultation, I put together an estimate. Once selections have been finalized, we move into the design stage. Once completed, couples have the opportunity to request any changes to verbiage or design. After a couple has approved their full project design-including save the dates, invitations, or any day of wedding stationery-production begins!
Q. What is something you recommend couples do before meeting with you?
Make your guest list! It doesn’t have to be complete with addresses, but having an idea of household count (versus individual count) will be helpful to get an idea of stationery costs.
Q. What is unique to Simply Torn?
Christa: As I was building my business ,I worked at a professional print shop where I learned the ins and outs of the printing process. This background gives me a deep understanding of the print side of all projects rather than just design.
Q: What is something you wish couples knew more about when planning stationery/invites/etc?
Christa: Timeline plays a huge factor when you are thinking of custom stationery. Like many other wedding vendors, I only take on a certain number of clients per wedding date and month. This helps keep things more focused on our awesome couples. As a quick tip: I typically recommend that your guests receive their save the dates six to nine months out, and invitations at least 8 weeks out. That being said it doesn’t hurt to reach out a year prior to your big day.
Q. Last question! Why do you think stationery is important? Why not DIY?
Stationery is the very first item your guests will see and it helps to set the tone for your special day. Will your wedding be more laid back, or an elegant black tie affair? Not only will your guests get a sneak peek of what is to come for your wedding day, but it’s also an opportunity to tie in some of those special details that make your relationship yours. Did you get engaged in the mountains? A wax seal pressed with a mountain line drawing on your save the date envelopes could add a personal touch! Custom stationery is an investment. You are paying for not only the end product, but also the designers knowledge regarding:
That concludes are question and vendor feature. After all of that, if you are looking a stationer, click the link below to get connected with Christa and her amazing work!
